We offer a range of financial support

 

Tuition is free for 16-18s and Northumberland College can support eligible full-time learners with up to £1,200 over two years to help with the cost of being a student*.

We can also provide information about free and discounted travel schemes that may be available to your son or daughter.

On top of this, the college may be able to offer additional financial help with course related costs, for example, any specialist equipment needed for a course.

*Subject to household income of £20,800 or less.

 

YES - if you are aged 16 - 18.

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Work Related Activity Group benefits.

YES - if you are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Work Related Activity Group benefits and intend to study Level 2 or below.

YES - if you study a Level 2 Apprenticeship at any age or a Level 3 Apprenticeship and you are aged 19 - 23.

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 and intend to study for your First Full Level 2 qualification.

YES - if you aged 19 - 23 and intend to study for your First Full Level 3 qualification.

YES - if you intend to study for a Skills for Life (English or maths) course (excludes ESOL).

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 years old and intend to study a Foundation Learning course and do not have any prior Level 2 qualifications, but aim to progress to Level 2.

 

YES - if you are aged between 19 and 23 - you will be able to study all courses with a discounted fee.

YES - if you are aged 24+ and study up to Level 2.

Discounted fees are not available if you are aged 24 or over and study at Level 3 or higher, however you will be eligible for a 24+ Loan from the Government.

 

We may be able to help you access financial support to help with childcare, travel and course costs e.g. equipment, books or uniform.

Assistance with course fees could be available if:

  • you have an income of less than £21,000
  • you are in receipt of inactive benefits
    • Income Support
    • Housing Benefit
    • Council Tax Benefit
    • Employment Support Allowance (none work related group)
    • Contribution based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • You are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or Pension Credit
 

Northumberland College has launched a travel scheme that means all 16-18 year olds who study at the college, living in Northumberland or Tyne and Wear and living more than 3 miles from their chosen place of study, will be entitled to free travel by public transport from September 2014.

Northumberland College is also providing an extended bus service between Berwick and its main sites at Ashington and Kirkley Hall to better cater for students in north Northumberland. Furthermore, dedicated bus services have also been added from Cramlington to Ashington and from Cramlington and Blyth to Kirkley Hall. This will help to provide a comprehensive bus service to the students of Northumberland College.
