Financial Support

 

We offer a range of financial support

 

Tuition is free for 16-18s and Northumberland College can support eligible full-time learners with up to £1,200 over two years to help with the cost of being a student*.

We can also provide information about free and discounted travel schemes that may be available to your son or daughter.

On top of this, the college may be able to offer additional financial help with course related costs, for example, any specialist equipment needed for a course.

*Subject to household income of £20,800 or less.

 

YES - if you are aged 16 - 18.

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Work Related Activity Group benefits.

YES - if you are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Work Related Activity Group benefits and intend to study Level 2 or below.

YES - if you study a Level 2 Apprenticeship at any age or a Level 3 Apprenticeship and you are aged 19 - 23.

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 and intend to study for your First Full Level 2 qualification.

YES - if you aged 19 - 23 and intend to study for your First Full Level 3 qualification.

YES - if you intend to study for a Skills for Life (English or maths) course (excludes ESOL).

YES - if you are aged 19 - 23 years old and intend to study a Foundation Learning course and do not have any prior Level 2 qualifications, but aim to progress to Level 2.

We may be able to help you access financial support to help with childcare, travel and course costs e.g. equipment, books or uniform.

Assistance with course fees could be available if:

  • you have an income of less than £21,000
  • you are in receipt of inactive benefits
    • Income Support
    • Housing Benefit
    • Council Tax Benefit
    • Employment Support Allowance (none work related group)
    • Contribution based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • You are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or Pension Credit
 

 

 

Free travel to college for 16-18s* 


Our joined up transport network helps you to access all of our campuses through our own dedicated coaches, which through our free travel scheme are supported by public buses and rail/metro connections. 
 
Our services are accessible, so if you see a route near you we will do our best to create an accessible pick-up point.
 
Learners aged 19 or over can also get help with transport costs (eligibility applies).

Free meals at college for 16-18s

Eligible students aged 16-18 may also apply for free meals at college.  Click here to download a free meals application form and return to the Help Hub.
   
 
* Terms and conditions apply: Travel to college is free of charge for all those aged 16-18 at 31st August this year, in full time education (excluding Higher Education), living in Northumberland or Tyne & Wear and more than 3 miles from their place of study.
