Young people who have not found the right option following GCSEs and those people interested in learning something new or looking to improve their career through study are invited to attend an open event at Northumberland College.

The first open event of this academic year will take place on Tuesday 8 November, 4:30 - 7pm, at the college's Ashington and Kirkley Hall campuses where visitors can find out about courses available.

Tutors will be available to give advice on full and part-time courses in a wide range of subjects and courses including Apprenticeships and Higher Education.

Plus, advisers will be on hand to provide information on bursaries and grants.

The Ashington campus offers a wide range of education and training in art design and digital business administration, construction, engineering, renewables, motor vehicle, early years, hair and beauty, hospitality, IT, sport and uniformed public services.

Kirkley Hall is the North East's premier land-based training provider with courses in agriculture, animal care, veterinary nursing, arboriculture, countryside and environment, equine, floristry, horticulture and outdoor activity leadership.

The showcase open events will give visitors the chance to take a look at some of the College's new facilities, which were upgraded as part of a recent £10m refurbishment.

New facilities include a modern 40-seat restaurant, additional professional kitchen, luxurious hair and beauty salon, all-new construction trades workshops, spacious motor vehicle workshop with six vehicle bays and an engineering facility with advanced manufacturing centre.

The college has recently opened a purpose-built Wind Hub and Renewable Engeries centre based at the Port of Blyth with state-of-the-art workshops and the latest teaching and learning technologies for renewables.

Future developments to the College include a £2.5m STEM centre - for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics due to open in 2017, £1m Equine Centre with America barn style stables and new indoor and outdoor riding areas, plus further farm developments at its Kirkley Hall campus

Support offered by the College includes a free travel scheme that means all 16-18 year olds who study at the College, living in Northumberland or Tyne and Wear and living more than three miles from their chosen place of study, are entitled to the College's free travel scheme.

Those aged over 19, who wish to study an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 qualification, may be eligible for the government's Advanced Learner Loan.
