Animal Care and Equine Academy

If you wish to follow a professional career in the horse industry, the quality of facilities and high calibre of staff at our Kirkley Hall campus will give you an excellent start.

Our enthusiastic and passionate team lies at the heart of our success in equine studies.

We have a large variety of horses on loan, complemented by a small core of college owned horses. Students can bring their own horse to college at our own DIY livery yard.

Our equine facilities include a 25 horse stable yard, eight horse DIY livery yard for student horses, two 60x30m outdoor all weather arenas and a brand-new 50x25m indoor riding arena in 2011. Other facilities include a horse walker, weighbridge, solarium, gait analysis facilities and indoor demonstrating barns.

We have two floodlit all-weather surface arenas suitable for dressage and show jumping plus we have a British Eventing cross country course from 80 to 100cm.

Students will experience a variety of equine related visits and trips and compete in national inter college competitions. We now offer non-riding routes through all of our equine courses for those with horse experience but with little or no riding experience.

We host British Eventing and British Dressage shows too.

We also offer Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships in Equine. Contact advice.centre@northland.ac.uk or 01670 841200 for more details.

Career opportunities...

Groom, livery yard manager, equine product sales and various specialist equine roles including equine dentistry are just some of the careers our past students have gone on to enjoy.
